My horse on the trail ride was Midnight and he was PERFECT!! I love this horse!! He is stubborn and full of personality! The tour guide told us how he used to be a wild mustang and was a great horse, but would stop from time to time on the trail.
This was my view on the trail. There was another family on our trail ride. They were right behind the guide, then was Clara, me, Lucy and Mike was bringing in the rear. Poor Clara was pretty much with the other family for the ride as Midnight didn’t just stop from time to time—he stopped ALL THE TIME!!! He choose his own path, through the woods and trees. The trail guide would come back to have a talkin’ to him and then he would RUN to catch up!! He was not going to listen to anyone, and I am NOT a horse whisperer at all!! I kept kicking his sides (as she showed me how to do) and he would look back at me like he was laughing at me. He would go when he was ready to go, and not a moment sooner!
Here’s me on Midnight—having a ball! I must say though—this was 3 days ago now and I am STILL sore!! There is nothing natural about being on a horse! I am aware of parts of my butt I didn’t know were there!
When Midnight was with the pack, he was up Trixie’s butt!! In fact, this isn’t close enough, but the best picture I could find. He had no personal space concept at all! Even when Trixie would poop—Midnight was right up in it!
Usually, this is what I was watching—everyone get farther and farther away! I’d be kicking, coaxing, and laughing—trying my best to convince Midnight that it would be a good idea to join the group!
Lucy and Mike were behind me and Midnight and they kept having to stop to wait on Midnight. Mike kept talking to his horse (he talked to Rusty the WHOLE trip!) They had quite the conversations! Rusty desperately wanted to pass us but Mike wouldn’t let him do so and he kept looking back at him like “really!!” Lucy’s horse just went with the flow and had a “whatever” attitude. All the other horses were great staying together and hanging with the guide.
All horse poop and walk at the same time. Mine on the other hand decided to use any bodily function as a reason to stop!
We will catch up—eventually—when Midnight feels like it!!
Clara kept turning around yelling—”come on Midnight!” She kept trying to stop her horse, Trixie, so they could wait up, but her horse was serious about staying with the group :)
I think Midnight felt the group was just too slow, so if he waited and aloud some distance between us, then he could run to catch up and it made him feel like the wild mustang he is at heart :)
There’s that personal space thing again—up Trixie’s butt!
Clara is telling Midnight to keep up!
We got to cross the river. Midnight was doing great and I thought we were going to get to go across with the group—I thought wrong though. He got into the water and decided he wanted to hang out there for a while too!
Mike and I have not been on horses since our honeymoon in Jamaica. These were much healthier horses to say the very least!! We are not natural equestrians by any means!! Clara talked the entire tour! In fact, the other family with us, said she provided great commentary the whole time! I didn’t hear a whole lot of it given the fact that we were so far back most of the time, but when I did hear she was talking about how she wants us to get a house that she can have a horse at! She loves horses and wanted to bring Trixie home with us! I also heard her say how she felt like we were going into battle in the Civil War, and she was pointing out vascular and non vascular foliage on the trail!
This was a wonderful way to spend a couple of hours, to enjoy the family and the beautiful countryside in the fall! It was a perfect time and Midnight only enhanced the whole experience! He was the perfect horse for me!!
