We were able to take a tour of the Nursing School here at ULM with Girl Scouts. It was a great opportunity and very educational (and fun :)
Getting the stethoscopes adjusted. Note, I was with Lucy’s group so I don’t have pictures of Clara’s group…
These “dummies” were super cool! There is a computer that controls each “person” and gives them symptoms. They hooked up to real hospital equipment. They breathe, talk, have heart beats, etc. I love the look on A’s face here---just not sure what all to think of it!
It freaked them out the first time the guy said “I don’t feel so good!”
Oh Lucy—what a goofball!
They also learned about nutrition. Also, they learned the proper way to wash their hands. One of the moms from the other group came up to me afterwards to tell me that Clara asked a ton of questions (good ones too, thankfully), but that when the nurses asked how many times a day they wash their hands Clara announced that “we are just not that clean so we don’t wash our hands much.” My goodness!! So, now whenever we wash our hands (which IS often) we announce loudly “Clara, we are washing our hands!” We are also telling her all the time to wash her hands. It’s funny, but I think she now has gotten the point. LOL!
