Last week we went on a field trip to Curry Farms.
Here we are going through the corn maze. We have done many corn mazes in many states and this was a very good one. I was surprised to learn that they do not use the company that comes in with GPS and special equipment to map out elaborately designed mazes---but rather they do it by hand. Quite impressive!
The pumpkin patch!! We came on the perfect day. The woman with the homeschool group who was in charge of scheduling this trip did it later than usual (due to having a baby---I think that is a good excuse)---so we were scheduled on Halloween---but I say do that every year!!! It was perfect weather and they were literally giving the pumpkins away because they were going to be plowed under. We got HUGE pumpkins and some of the beautiful ones that are good for stacking. I haven’t dug into them yet to get their seeds and pulp, but that is on the agenda for this weekend! I can taste those seeds already
All the kids were so excited about being able to pick BIG pumpkins!
Clara can’t even lift the one she has chosen.
I am so glad I was watching when this happened---Clara fell walking backwards scanning for perfect pumpkins!
They had an incredible play area set up for the kids. This ride Clara is on is old tires cut and formed to look like horses. You could hear squeals of delight from this ride the whole time we were there!
Weeeeee!!!!!!
A swing for two!
The farm dog is Bear and he was SWEET!!!!
Lucy is signing “I love you” to me---I love those kids so much!!!
Clara coming through the swingy thingy---what a simple concept for a play thing and it was very popular!
It looks like it is giving birth to her!
She’s been through it and now has to go on top of it. Many people just ride on top of it (which is where I was to take these pictures and I have to say it is an enjoyable swing), but Clara had to tackle all aspects of this thingy!
It is NOT easy to balance on this because it is round, with ridges, and is swinging back and forth!
Boom!
Simple water slides for rubber ducks kept the kids entertained for a long time. Clara could have played there all day!
Scooping the corn. Lucy was working at creating a mote around her.
Of course, there was plenty of hay to climb…
and to fall down!
Lucy was being a goof on the swing. Spinning to wind it up and then releasing to go super fast…. so here she is winding up….
winding….
still winding….
almost there…..
and the release----it flung her shoes off!!!
Here’s the group of “unsocialized” homeschool kids that went on this trip (the second trip of the week). I am harping on that unsocialized thing because it seems the past couple of weeks it has come up time and time again and it absolutely floors me that people will really (out of total ignorance) use that as something negative about homeschooling!! These kids are better socialized---with kids and adults of ALL ages then most adults I know!
Anyway---Clara is up on top, and Lucy is off to the left of the pic.
We had a great time at Curry Farms!
