Crevice Dwellers

We went to the zoo yesterday as they were having a bat presentation event thing :) I love bats!! Ever since we had an attic full of them when we lived in Douglas I have loved bats!! They are fascinating mammals and anything that can eat it's own weight in mosquitoes is a friend of mine!!

We went early and got to see all the other animals and we spent a lot of time with the monkeys (it was air conditioned in the observatory!!---which had a lot to do with it :) The gorilla was walking around collecting things to make a "salad" with and then he got to this position and proceeded to bend over to put his salad together and was mooning us BIG TIME!!! Lucy got my camera out and wouldn't you know she just missed the money shot!!!

When we were learning about the bats they talked about crevice dweller bats and it made us think of our moon from the gorilla :)

On a sad note about the bats of North America (and Europe and a little in Canada)---there is an illness that is getting these little critters when they hibernate called White Nose Syndrome and it will kill the ENTIRE population of colonies where it shows up. That means if there are MILLIONS in a cave and one gets this----ALL of those bats will die within 4 months!! They are working on trying to figure out why and what and how to stop it, but have no answers at this point in time. It was first found in 1996 and so far is only on the East Coast of America. Our family is praying for our bat friends as it would be devastating to humans if bats were killed off!!
