Owl Puke :)

It was owl pellet (i.e. owl puke) dissection today at co-op for the 1st-3rd graders. The kids absolutely LOVED this (and I have to admit I loved it as well :)

The kits came with all the needed tools and the facts sheets so they would be able to identify the bones they pulled out of the pellet.

Lucy meets her pellet for the first time :)

It was like digging for buried treasure. The kids would be so excited as they found prizes :) They would yell out---I have a skull, or I have a rib, etc. Of course, the skulls were the big prizes. I was so amazed to see that some pellets had up to 4 or 5 skulls in one wad, whereas others would have only 1 or 2. Either way, there was no shortage of bones in any of them!

The project over Thanksgiving break is to glue together as much of a rodent as we can piece together from her pellet. It's very cool and we all learned a lot! Next semester we dissect cow eyes :) Yippee :)
