It’s Official

We have a pool :)  We have been working on the pool the past few weeks trying to get it from a lovely shade of green, to a milky white, and now finally to clear!!  Have learned a LOT the past few weeks, and have bonded with the Pool Place people as I keep taking them samples of the water.  The most drastic and fun step was the “drop out”.  Once you kill everything it falls to the bottom and you vacuum it up, but much of the crap is too light to sink so it hangs out in the middle and makes the water look milky.  You add drop out and that attaches to the light stuff, they clump together and fall to the bottom where you can easily see them and vacuum it all up!!  It has been a lot of work (although working on a pool is quite soothing I find).  Today we were totally clear, perfectly balanced, and ready to go for the salt water conversion!!  Adding the salt water thing wasn’t too bad at all (especially not for me—Mike did all that work :)  Once you get it all hooked up, you dump in 400 lbs of salt and what is the best way to mix up a big pot of water with salt—send 2 kids into the pool to do it!  They were more than happy to honor that request!  It was still a bit cold for us adults.

This is Lucy first getting in—it’s a bit cold!!  The thermometer reads 70 but it sure didn’t feel that way to my hand!  Once they got in they were all over the place!  It was so awesome to actually be watching them swim!!  I have wanted a pool for 42 years—so this is a huge thing for me!

We are excited about all the fun we are going to have as a family and with friends hanging out by the pool!!  The deck could use some work, but it’s in good shape for the most part.

The only issue I’m having is all the darn Wolf Spiders!  I’ve had to go around the back of the pool a lot to vacuum or skim and every time I do I will kill at least 4 of those suckers!!  Half of them are mothers with sacks hanging out of their back ends filled with babies!!  I will take the sack any day—actually I like the sack because it is white and easy to spot!  I did kill one in which the babies had hatched and apparently in God’s infinite wisdom He designed the babies to piggy back mom for a certain period of time!!  I thought it was a really big, bumpy spider—but NO, it was babies and they are so light that you go down with a stomp and babies shoot out and fly around everywhere!!  Oh, the heebeegeebees!!!  I got 4 wolfies today alone—two mothers.  We did pick up some deterrent spray that I will spray everywhere in hopes that they will move on!!  We have 4 acres, and there is another 10 next door empty—they have plenty of places to go hang out where I will leave them alone—but if I see them I will hunt them down and squash them and then squash them again  :)
