Field Day

It was Field Day time of year again.  Last year it was crazy hot, and this year COLD!!!  I guess that is typical for LA weather—you just never know what you are going to get  :)

I was in charge of taking the 8 year old girls to the different events.  I was too busy to take pictures—so the one above is the only one I got—go figure :)  There is Clara on her hula hoop—she got 1st place in this event!!

It was a great event and we all had a great time.  I have been fighting a cold and my time in the cold here was probably a bit much as I was really feeling it later on—but it was great and I am really glad we didn’t have to miss it!  The girls had a great time—with the events, and with all their friends!

The day after this was our church Family Field Day.  We had so much fun last year and were so excited about this one.  I wasn’t feeling well, but rested during the morning and figured I would be good to go by 3.  We had a flood though in the kitchen which put a serious damper on the morning, and made resting impossible.

I was in the shower and when I got out I heard all the commotion of kids frantically collecting towels!  Clara had walked into the kitchen and water was pouring out from under the ice maker.  Mike said it was so deep it was seeping through the back door onto the patio!!  We have hard wood floors in there too—not good!  We used every towel we have and managed to dry it best we could.  Putting fans on the floor and hope for the best.  Given that issue I was afraid if we left it would happen while we were gone and wouldn’t be able to save the floors so I offered to stay home and be on “flood watch”.

They had a great time and said it was freezing!  I think it was best I wasn’t out in that.  Not that I was able to rest here though.  I was afraid to sleep as I would miss the floor if it happened, and constantly thinking I was hearing something happening.  It was an uneventful evening thank God!  We had calls into the previous owner to find out who installed the septic water treatment thing, but he wasn’t calling back which was not like him.  Come to find out we had an old number…go figure.  Come Sunday we figured we were going to have to call a Roto Rooter as there had to be a clog….

After church the plumber came and couldn’t really find a problem.  He snaked the drain (much farther out then Mike’s snake goes) and felt something give.  They ran a camera through the pipes and it all looked good, so we thought we were in the clear.  A while later Clara went to take a shower, and here came the water—pouring out from under the ice maker again!!  We were able to get her out quick, called the plumber back and he came the following morning.  He was stumped quite frankly.  Fortunately it happened while he was here so he was able to witness it.  While he was here we were able to get in touch with the previous owners, got the info we needed and called them.  They were in the area and were here in about 10 min!!  Come to find out it was their issue!!  A crushed pipe—not fully crushed, but enough to clog super fast.  The system was working fine, once past this area.  So, they dug it up, replaced the area that was bad, encased it in cement so it would never happen again, and we are now good to go!!!  That was on their dime too which was a relief to us as well.

I will do another post with a picture of that issue….
