First off I want to address the recent storm we had—Isaac. I want to thank everyone who called, texted, emailed, FB messaged, etc. to check on us and to check on Clara. We managed the storm fine with only small branches down. We have neighbors that didn’t fare too well with huge limbs, trees down and we have seen several houses with a tree now in them :( I prepped Clara beforehand and she was a part of finding the flashlights, batteries, etc. so we were prepared just in case. We made it a game and she actually got into it, to the point she was excited about when we would lose power. We never did though, and she was a bit disappointed. She kept asking, how much longer until the power goes out…. We were very fortunate. I do know people that lost power for up to a day—but we were good to go, thank You God! I was very proud of Clara for being such a trooper and it made her feel very special when people called to check on her :)
We were a bit concerned about flooding. Our backyard holds water when it rains to begin with, and it was getting rather high. I did not sandbag at all, and it was looking like it may creep over the patio ledge which would come into the back door. It did not get that high though thankfully. Some of the noticeable effects of the aftermath is the HUMIDITY!! Holy Moly, it has been HOT!! A cool front is coming this weekend though, thankfully. Also, the mosquitoes are out in full force!! BIG fellows too!!
A few days after Isaac left we went to a friends house and got to eat rabbit for the first time. A bit odd eating rabbit, while looking at the rabbits they are raising for meat—but hey, it was good eats :) They have free range chickens that the kids always love to try to catch (and occasionally get lucky and get one). I would love to have chickens one day—they are really cute, produce a lot of eggs, and actually make good pets. I do not think I would be able to eat one of my pets though…I know people do it, but I couldn’t—I would get far too attached!
Clara announced to everyone that she was not going to hunt another chicken unless she had a gun because it was just too hard to get them :) Love it! There she is proudly holding her catch for the day.
