We made it in our trip to Baton Rouge and the capital building (which was the purpose we were on the trip in the first place :)
This is the parking attendant M. She is the dearest, sweetest woman! We could have hung out with her all day!
In front of the capital building. The grounds were gorgeous and we went to the looking out on the 28th floor and it was very beautiful from all angles! I can’t wait to go back when Mike can come along too, I know he would really enjoy it too!
You point a camera at these girls and they immediately go into “strike a pose” mode!
Inside the capital building.
There is the governor's gold elevator. B had gotten to ride in it before, but the aide that took them last time was not around this trip. Oh well :)
The phone was ringing and Clara decided to answer it. There was no one there!
The shoe shine guy—he was a lot of fun as well!
We ate in the cafeteria there.
My girls are such goofs!! I love them! This statue was a bit freaky looking I have to admit!
This was right before the girls were taken up on the platform of the Senate where B sang. The girls were introduced and all were presented with beautiful official certificates that declared them Senators for the day. They got lapel pins and were treated like VIP’s—it was a great experience for them (and me) for sure!! We met several Senators and Representatives.
A funny note about the trip was that while in Rayne, hanging out with K’s family, a cousin (14) was hanging out with the girls and kept calling Clara Clair. Finally Clara got exasperated and said “it’s real simple, just one work Clar A” We all laughed and laughed, and from then on we call her ClarA (where you just overemphasize the last a"). Well, when Senator Thompson said her name he said Clair and she said (very politely, thankfully) ClarA! So, when he was introducing them to the Senate he pronounced it ClarA and it was just so perfect and too funny!!
B did a beautiful job singing the National Anthem! Also, a woman senator did the prayer before they began and it was a wonderful prayer that you could tell was meant and felt!! It was incredible to witness and I am still praising God for that woman!
On the way out—another perfect time to strike a pose!
Also on our adventures to Cajun Country we went to the Boudin Capital of the World. We took home some Boudin and are hooked!! We did get some from Sam’s Club, which isn’t bad, but not nearly as good!
The first night down there the girls all wanted to go swimming at night. That was fine, but too cold for the adults. I slathered on the bug spray and sat outside. I was wearing cotton capris and had my legs pulled up to my chest. Apparently the cotton is not at all a deterrent to mosquitoes and I didn’t cover my clothed areas with bug spray! So, I ended up with 53 (yes, we counted) skeeter bites on my butt!!! Oh, how evil those little critters are!!! Even with an itchy butt, it was a great mini vacation/field trip for the girls and I!!
