I have to brag about Lucy for a moment---I am so very proud of the young lady she is becoming, for so many reasons, but once again she did something that brought tears to my eyes and I see that she “gets it”!
I got a job dusting for a family in the neighborhood. To know where we live, there are million dollar homes all over the place here—and this is one of those homes (not one of the biggest, but up there for sure). Both parents work full time and she understandably doesn’t want to spend time doing a job (dusting) that she detests! So, I am happy to help out and the extra money is great :) Anyway, Lucy goes with me as my helper. Since I am still cautious with my back it works great because she gets under the tables for the bases and chairs and everything low. She is a great duster too!
Well, the whole time we were there this past time the little boy followed us from room to room talking non stop. He went on and on about how he always wants to do this or that with his parents but they are always saying they don’t have the time. He even said he wanted to help his mother dust but she wouldn’t do that either. The mom would call him to her and I know she was anxious to get him to stop talking to us as she had to know what he was talking about. I tried many times to redirect the conversation, but he would have no part of that LOL. He would speak so poorly to her!! I was appalled actually and it made me very sad for them! He was being a brat, but truth is he was being ALLOWED to be a brat, and obviously had been for a long time. I feel bad for him as it is attention…
Anyway, the house is amazing!! They have at least 6 flat screen, huge tvs! In the “man cave” there is a movie screen the size of a small movie theatre (we had a movie theatre in VA that had one that size). A full size pool table and full size air hockey, a kitchen is going in there and there is still plenty of room in there—and that is just the “man cave”!! Our jaws were on the floor the whole time LOL. When we left and got in the car I told Lucy what her portion of the money was going to be and what a great helper she was and she said she wanted her money to go into the tv fund (we are saving up to get a flat screen since we have an old tv and it is the wrong size for how tv is formatted now---since it is supposed to be rectangular and ours is square it cuts off heads at the top and caption at the bottom---which can be a lot of fun, but is also annoying some too) Anyway, I was impressed that she was willing to do that, but that is NOT what impressed me the most!
What brought tears to my eyes was when she said “I would rather have what we have then all they have!” I asked what she meant by that and she said she loves to hang out with me, and the family, and we obviously love to hang out with our kids and we have a lot of love and fun together and she would rather have that then all the “stuff” they had. She was broken hearted for the little boy. We now pray for that family :) I am in absolute agreement with my lovely daughter---I would much rather have what we have then stuff!!
So, with that, I can happily watch our tv with the headless people and we can make up what is being said when we can’t understand (for instance with Swamp People) or when there is another language being translated. In fact, we find that a favorite pass time is to mute the tv no matter what so we can add the commentary/dialogue ourselves---it certainly makes everything a comedy LOL!! The fact is, we do it together, with love and laughter!
It’s not just the humans that have so much love here---the animals do as well! Now that is a HAPPY cat!!
