I have to document this, it made us laugh so hard!
The girls are learning so much in Classical Conversations and for a 4 year old it can get a little bit jumbled. We were doing the 10 commandments and Clara was doing great, then she got to # 7 and she combined that with # 9 and it came out "Thou shalt not commit adultery in front of thy neighbor". Then she went straight to #10 and said "not cover". The imagery---Mike and I were laughing so hard!!
Also, when doing the prepositions, she can say them wonderfully, but when she gets to "across" she says "the cross". I will correct her on this and say "it's across." and she will respond "yes, I know....a cross....that Jesus died on." Too funny!!!
It's also funny each week to see what her favorite word will be for the week. We are learning some big words and with Lucy we are going in to more detail about what all they mean, but for Clara to focus is really just "hanging the peg" so we can come back in years to come and hang things on that peg. This week it is "golgi bodies". For whatever reason she LOVES this word and will say it all the time----hardly ever in relation to animal cells, but for no apparent reason. At dinner she just says "golgi bodies" and starts to laugh. I love it!!
Now Lucy is doing BEAUTIFULLY with this form of learning!!! The confidence she is gaining through this is carrying over into her other subjects that we were struggling with and I have seen major progress!!! As for math, the child is a math whiz!!! She can do addition and subtraction without showing the work of borrowing and carrying. Even when the minuend has several 0's in it. I encourage her to show her work, but have watched her do this and she just remembers what goes where. She is doing it now with multiplication and division too. It is amazing to me!! When I was checking her work the first time, I assumed it was all wrong because I didn't see the evidence of borrowing, when I discovered it was correct I asked her if she cheated some how. She swore she didn't and so I watch her, and she is just that good!!! Now, she may still write the number backwards, but I understand that and she is getting better with that too as long as she doesn't rush and pays attention.
