Swimming at the Hotel Alcazar

Before leaving our last day we stopped in for lunch at what used to be the Hotel Alcazar. The cafe is in what used to be the pool and it was so cool!!! The food was incredible too!!

Here the girls are on the second floor.

I am standing on the second floor overlooking what would have been the deep end (where the cafe is now) and looking out towards the low end. The deep end only got to 6 1/2 feet and the low end would have been about 3 1/2 feet deep. We got to see pictures of it from back then, and they had all kinds of elaborate shows---bands playing on gondolas from the pool, swimming shows with trapeze acrobatics and on certain days it was open to the public and they even offered swim lessons. On each of the ends was a private pool that would have been separated from the rest, one for men and one for women, for those too modest to swim with everyone else.

Here the girls are "swimming" in the pool :)

Cafe Alcazar. Apparently it is the 4th most popular restaurant in St. Augustine and it was SO good!!!
