Duck Commander Day

Apparently, every year church has “Duck Commander Day” where Phil Robertson shares his testimony and preaches a bit and lots (and I do mean LOTS) of people wear camo!!  This year, with the Duck Dynasty show out now, they expected the turn out to be even greater (and apparently over 2000 people came).

It was very interesting talking to people as there was a range of opinions about allowing A&E to tape inside the church.  Personally, I thought they did a good job, were uninvasive (as much as possible), and the message they were exposed to and recorded is wonderful!  We are praying that they will edit it well and it will bring people to Christ ultimately, which is the heart desire of this family and the church!

The morning class time was spent with Jase preaching.  He was excellent!  He tied it all into duck hunting, and demonstrated the duck calls and such, but brought it all back to God and Jesus and the message of salvation.  Who knows how that can be edited though, as I know the main goal of the family and A&E is different there---they are making a sit com essentially….it will be interesting to see.

I loved this guy—this big burly man, with the mohawk with a little dog that has her tail pink!  Too cute!

After service they did have a meet and greet with the family.  We were so busy talking (and eating) that we made it over there late and several members of the family had left already.  The food was awesome!!  The fellowship was great!  The weather was perfect! It was a great day!

I do know people who did not attend church because they did not agree with the filming inside.  It is not a usual thing, which is good as that would be quite disruptive, but I understand why the decision was made (last minute in fact, as they said no at first) to allow the cameras in---ultimately, they want the message out!  As the pastor said, God has opened up this platform and they are going to run with it!  Phil talked about how many people have been saved through the Duck Commander show on the sports network, and they are believing that many more will be added to that number via Duck Dynasty as it has a much larger scope!

Si, of course.  He is the girls most favorite!!  Yes, he did have his cup of tea with him  LOL!

Godwin and Jep.  I don’t know why I am so out of focus.  I have to say too that Jep has the kindest eyes!

Korie and Willie.

And “the other brother”  LOL  This is the pastor, Alan Robertson, who as of yet has not been named in the show (he was on a show but they didn’t name him  LOL) because he is clean shaven.  He said that every day he picks up a razor and shaves he is making a decision to be different  LOL!  Gives you a little bit of an idea of how the rest would look without beards  :)

I wouldn’t think we would be in this episode as we really didn’t notice the cameras much.  We saw them scanning the crowds some, so maybe at a distance.

It is fascinating learning the behind the scenes things.  This show is loosely real life, but more of a sit com.  The big house they show as Willie’s---that is not their house.  It is Kay and Phil’s house they show though.  Willie and Korie don’t live nearly that extravagantly and so A&E has taken liberties there.  In a show coming up it is about them buying a vineyard.  They did not purchase it---Landry’s vineyard allowed them to borrow it.  It was funny, as soon as the commercial aired with the upcoming episode Landry vineyards send out many messages on FB about how they did not sell the vineyard  LOL!

Glad to hear Landry's didn't sell. The false advertising for this show doesn't surprise me. Not something I'm interested in watching- just one more stereotypical portrayal of 'us dumb cracker rednecks in Mun-row Loozianey'.

I love Duck Dynasty & watch it every chance I get. When A&E first promoted the show, I thought they would be 'dumb'. Not true, as I learned after the first show. I take from the show that this is an amazing, Chrisian, loving, educated family living life the way that makes them happy. There is a beautiful message in what Willie says at the end of each show. More television shows should be like this one. A wonderful example of what more families should be like. This 'northerner in Indiana' highly recommends you give the show a try.

The show is entertainment and the producers make the decisions about things like the house shown -- the Robertson family tells the truth when they are asked questions about the show. It IS entertaining, while also hopefully helping some viewers straighten out the priorities in their lives.

Thank you for this interesting, informative post and pictures! Cute kids!
