Our first Louisiana Mardi Gras!! Of course, this is a BIG deal here! People live for this time of year around here it seems :)
We decided to take part in the Mardi Gras Pet Pawrade. Lucy worked hard to make Bella an outfit for the occasion, and we had to buy some cheap beads to throw to the crowd.
It was COLD this day! Personally, I didn’t care how cold it was as I was so happy to be out and about as this was when I thought my back was really almost better (I ended up overdoing it this day and went from good to way, way worse---but it was still a good day out LOL)!
Lucy used fabric for the bulk of the outfit, she had a green ribbon around the collar (although that came off), and she made all the rosettes (that we learned how to do on Pinterest) and glued and stitched them onto the garment. Each rosette has a bean in it as well. We also put some beads on her as well---as no Mardi Gras outfit is complete without beads!
Lucy is walking Bella in a best dressed contest. Bella didn’t win---but she did in our book :) Lucy was super proud to show off her creation and Bella is always happy to be the center of attention!
Rest time!
Now we are lining up to walk in the parade.
Beads ready to be thrown! We have found that you can buy some very expensive beads!!! There are what we call bead snobs too---they are not interested in catching your cheap beads---only the big, nice ones! I mean, I don’t really blame them, some of them were nice LOL!
Did I mention that it was COLD??!!
Here we go! The crowds were crazy!! I couldn’t get over it! I’m so glad we participated in this and got to witness the whole length of the parade. We did not come back for the evening parade as I knew by then I had overdone it with my back. Maybe next year, however, I still think we will enjoy the pet parade much more. We did watch the night one on TV---but we are just not big parade people! I mean once you’ve seen parades at Disney, you are just ruined to little town parades…. At least it is very family friendly around here though---we would never go to the one in New Orleans!
