The First Supper

I have so much to blog about, but since I don't have any pictures to accompany this post I will get this one done now :)

We moved in to our home in Alabama on Friday the 12th of March. It was an ordeal (as usual) as the moving truck was too big to 1. fit under the power lines crossing the road and then once they got past that obstacle 2. they were unable to get down the driveway so they had to call in extra help and walk everything down the driveway to the house and 3. it had been raining all that morning and the yard was like a swamp and the driveway was quite slick. It was a mess, but in the end they got it done :)

That night after the movers left, we went back to the apartment and got the rest of our stuff from there, did the final cleaning and brought the cats to their new home---yet again! I did not drug them this time as it is a relatively short drive of only about 30 min. Well, if you remember reading about the ordeal with Fluffy on our long drive from SC to AL---it isn't limited to long drives!!! Of course his butt explosions happened within the first 40 min anyway, and true to form, he had a butt explosion almost immediately this time too! Oh the STENCH!!!! We didn't bother to stop and clean him up and all that for the short drive. We did have to roll the windows down though in order to breathe!!!

I forgot to mention in the last post about Fluffy that once we made it to the apartment he needed a butt bath to clean all that was left on his long fur. Again, a butt bath was needed! This time he wasn't drugged though, so he put up more of a fight!! How can the cat poop on a normal day and not wear most of it, but put him in a car and it is like the crap is too afraid to leave him so it hangs on for all it's worth to ALL his fur back there! YUCK!!! So, we move in to a place and christen it with cat poop in the sink---lovely! The other cats were just fine!

Well, two days after being here we had a knock at the front door and it was a lovely neighbor lady who had brought us a meal. A great meal too!! Roast beef, lima beans, mashed potatoes and some orange desert thing that was really good too. Oh and home made bread!! She saw us moving in and noticed we had children so she brought them coloring books, crayons, play doh and some balls. It was very nice!!!

We were so hungry and ready to dig in when we realized we hadn't unpacked any of the silverware yet or any plates. We didn't have paper plates either. We searched for the right box, but couldn't find it in the sea of countless boxes here, so we had to make do :) The girls had found a bag of their old baby spoons that I had kept. You know, the LITTLE plastic baby spoons used when kids first learn to eat. So, that was what we had to use. To serve and to eat with! No plates---so Lucy used a skillet, Mike and I used cake pans and Clara used a tupperware thing. We feasted that night on this wonderful meal laughing all the time because other than the mashed potatoes nothing was easy with those little tiny spoons :) I think chop sticks would have worked better :) I don't think we are likely to forget our first supper here :)
