We love our floor plan and just about everything about our house, but one thing that we can't stand is wasted space!! We knew that under the stairs was not being utilized for anything and that drives us crazy. Mike has been moving things around in the attic since that project is about to begin. He tried to get our Christmas stuff up in the pull down attic space we have, but the opening is so narrow it is hard to get the stuff up there and the bins we have most stuff in are too big to fit. So, it was time to tap into that wasted space to store our stuff in. We went in through the hall closet and were just going to make a small access door (like what you see Lucy in) since the house control panel is in that closet.
Once Mike got in though it made so much more sense to move the control panel and give us a full size opening to access the storage. The girls have had so much fun going in there today. We have tracked all this dust all over the place now though :) We have to do some more
reframing to open it all up and then to make a door. We will put the shelving we had in the closet back up, and then we just have to remove that to access this storage, but we will really only have to get in there once a year (well twice---to get stuff out and put it away). Very cool!
